TheDailyCity.com Mobile Art Show

Since June 2009, TheDailyCity.com Mobile Art Show (FoursquareFacebookTwitterYelp) has been hanging art shows in moving vans, hosting private 5-minute chats inside beat-up Chevrolets, doing parking space "take-overs" and putting on interactive laser graffiti shows.
The monthly show provides cheap downtown gallery space to outsider artists and a fun diversion for downton passersby. The website MSN.com recognized it comically in 2010 as one of the 10 Wackiest Businesses in America on Wheels. Orlando Weekly named it an Editors Pick the same year. The show is now an official part of Third Thursdays, a gallery crawl put on by Downtown Arts District.

The art show is one of several live events the blog produces which include Orlando Food Truck BazaarOrlando Improv FestivalAudience Choice AwardsTaco Truck Taste TestMeeting of the Orlando Minds and Panel Series

While the idea of the moving van art show isn't new or original, Mark Baratelli (1) did it monthly, (2) attached it to an existing larger art event and (3) gave it a name. The name "Mobile Art Show" was originally used by Chanel for their traveling exhibit Baratelli saw in 2008 in New York City. A year later, when he attempted his first moving van art show, he remembered the name and applied it to the project. (Video above Filmed & Edited by Mark Baratelli)

Best of Orlando 2010 Writers Pick
Orlando Weekly | July 13, 2010
"Best vehicular venue for visual art: About a dozen different downtown venues participate in the monthly Third Thursday Gallery Hop, but most of those are in boring old buildings. Only one gallery dares to go outdoors: TheDailyCity.com Mobile Art Show makes its home inside a U-Haul truck parked at the corner of Pine Street and Orange Avenue. Curator Mark Baratelli consistently keeps the cool-stuff-per-square-inch ratio sky-high."

"Less than two blocks away, the CityArts Factory (29 S. Orange Ave.) is always the center of activity with its many galleries, including the popular Mobile Art Show just outside on Pine Street. MAS is an art show on wheels ... in the back of a rental truck to be precise. Monthly selected artists work with MAS producer Mark Baratelli to present a unique art experience."
